Stephanie Kirby and I met with Representative James Frank today along with his Chief of Staff, Jim Johnson. Like my meeting with Senator Kolkhorst, the goal was to share much they did not know about Texas Caregivers for Compromise and how the Senate legislation that Representative Frank sponsored in the House - SB25 and SJR19 (Prop 6) - has helped residents of long-term care both here in Texas and in other states that are modeling legislation after ours. Representative Frank was very encouraging and said that constituent groups like us are critical in our form of government because we make sure elected officials know what nobody else can or will tell them. We gave both Representative Frank and Senator Kolkhorst a canvas on behalf of Texas Caregivers for Compromise with the language of the 35th amendment to the Texas Bill of Rights, what we came to know as Proposition 6 as well as our group photo journal. Jim Johnson made a point to say that he especially liked hearing us refer to SB-25 as "our bill", not "the bill" or "your bill" because families who spoke up and worked for this legislation have ownership in what Texas has done and continues to do on behalf of long-term care residents. We told them that it's because we are Texas Caregivers for Compromise, and we are #notgoingaway!
